Still Life and Figure Painting Explorations

In this painting class, students will work with both still and live models, stressing their similarities rather than differences as painting subjects. Some painting "constraints", chosen to encourage intelligent simplification, will guide the work and keep the focus on heightened attention to value relationships, organization of larger shapes, decisive color choices, and confident use of paint. Students will generally take about one hour to work out the necessary drawing, then spend about two hours to complete the painting. For those who also register for the morning drawing class, it will be a great warm-up for painting and often the last drawing will be the foundation for the afternoon painting. (This class will include a model fee directly paid to the instructor)
