Penn Young has taught abstract painting in workshops at the Fine Art Work Center in Provincetown, and at Art New England. He’s also taught oil and acrylic painting one-on-one intensively. He was represented by and had solo shows with the Clifford/Smith Gallery and at Samson Projects, and his work has been in solo and group museum shows.
Abstraction stretches the mind, eye, and hand. If you paint abstract work and want to hone your skills and pick up new ones, or if you want to start making abstract work, or if you just want to get a sense of what abstraction can be about, take this class.
We will look at the elements of painting - composition, form, color, line, drawing and paint handling - and put them to use to make abstract work. Class time will involve fast exercises, more involved studies and making finished work. We’ll also talk about the history and range of abstract painting, as well as meaning and intention in abstraction.
Though primarily a painting class, those who draw or use other media are welcome.
