Description

Paste Paper and Bookmaking

Medium: Paper and Book Arts

Instructor: Suzette Durso

In this workshop you will learn how to make paste papers, a decorative paper that has been used in bookbinding for over 400 years.  You will also learn how to make a hardcover long stitch book.  Your finished paste papers will be used to embellish your long stitch books for their covers, pages, end papers and/or decorations.

The first day you will make your own paste paper, by brushing colored paste on paper and then creating patterns and textures with the use of a variety of tools, brushes, stencils and layers.  You will learn how to do different patterns, make your own tools and mix your own colored paste.

The second day you will create at least two books (two different sizes) bound in the long stitch
style.  This is a beautiful book where the stitches are exposed on the spine.  The long stitch book opens flat and is perfect for journaling, drawing, and writing.  You will learn the basics of book binding skills needed to make this book.
(There will be an additional $20.00 materials fee paid directly to the instructor.)
