This class explores the linkages between drawing and painting. The drawing time is focused on three skills which directly impact painting and reward continued practice: gesture, contour and straight lines. Through these, we’ll explore composition, proportion, shape, value, space and mark-making as they apply to painting in oil or acrylics. Paintings will be of varying duration, entertain a few different strategies for the painting process, and always focus on getting the big things right before getting seduced by detail or “effects.” The class benefits from including people at all levels of experience and each meeting is followed up with a summary of the lessons learned and images of the work done. There will be an additional model fee paid directly to the instructor.
