Description
Close Looking, the Materiality of Paint and Our Sense of Touch
Medium: All Mediums
Instructor: Stuart Shils
This is an intense, three-day, outdoor painting class focusing on paying attention to what is in front of us without any expectations of what a ‘landscape painting’ is supposed to be. Paint is something we apply with our hands while holding a brush, but what we do with the brush and how we compose is also a state of mind that requires close attention and cultivation. The conversation will be between what is ‘out there,’ the intervention of our visual intelligence, and what we do to the paint. There also will be significant emphasis on drawing as the thought engine behind all visual thought. The class is organized for mid-range to advanced painters.
