Description

MASTER WORKSHOP: The Elusive Object, Transformed Through Paint

Medium: Oil

Instructor: Emily Eveleth

How can you take an ordinary object, that one right in front of you, and make it extraordinary? Merging the analytical and the intuitive, this workshop will be a time to be fearless, open to possibility and trust what’s around you. Putting aside the idea of making finished, perfect paintings, we’ll take all the potentialities at our fingertips–placement, gesture, composition, line, color, thick luscious paint–and create a wealth of feeling with painted subjects by expanding our ideas of presentation. Working primarily from observation. this three-day workshop will have you thinking on your feet. Each day will start with quick exercises that merge cerebral thoughts and physical exuberant marks. We’ll explore strategies to move ideas from their initial dynamic impulses to flesh and blood paintings. Class time will be focused on careful looking, light-handed painting, and using oil paint’s unparalleled ability to express the tangible, the slippery and the implied. A central still life with a variety of objects will be provided. In addition, students are encouraged to bring a few objects of their own to add to the mix.
