Painting the Figure: Observation, Abstraction and Invention

Instructor: Nancy Gruskin
Learn approaches to figure painting that emphasize the abstraction of form and the expressive possibilities of color and composition. Students will work from a live model, as well as from fashion photography and reproductions of notable paintings. These figure studies will inform other paintings, combining figures with still life objects painted from life. Exercises involving collage, limited color schemes, and fabric samples will encourage artists to simplify and invent. This workshop is open to all medium. (This class will include a model fee directly paid to the instructor)
