Four observational drawing skills stand out as especially important and helpful to anyone who hasn't practiced them enough:  seeing gesture, contour, straight lines/angles and flat shape.  They do not comprise the way we see the world every day but they can be learned and practiced and come to feel natural.    In this class you'll experience and practice these to bring their benefits to your own approach.  The focus will be on drawing as the first step in painting - trying out ideas, composing, establishing proportion, etc.  Students will work from both still life and the model, stressing their similarities rather than their differences. Each class will begin with shorter drawings to introduce or practice these skills and end with a longer exercise.   For those who wish to take the painting class which follows this one, the drawing will often serve as the first step for painting of the same set-up or  pose. (This class will include a model fee directly paid to the instructor)
