Watercolor Intensive: Focus on Color and Layering

Color as it is used in watercolor and as a tool for expression will be the focus of this workshop. By seeing it, mixing it and layering it in innovative ways, students will learn when and how to use various watercolor pigments that are granular, transparent, staining and opaque. Students will choose one subject to focus on for the full three days and reimagine it in fresh, new ways using a variety of watercolor techniques. The subject could be a particular idea or any combination of figurative, abstract, floral, nature, landscape or narrative subjects. Students can approach this workshop in two ways: 1. Spend the three days working on one painting on a full or half sheet, creating accompanying research sketches to explore the mechanics and technical aspects of working on a larger format. 2. Alternatively, you may choose a theme and generate several smaller works that explore different variations and approaches.
