Description

MASTER WORKSHOP: The Painted Object - Transformation Through Presentation

All Levels

Medium: Oil

Instructor: Emily Eveleth

How can you take an ordinary object, that one right in front of you, and make it extraordinary? Merging the analytical and the intuitive, this workshop lead by Emily Eveleth will be a time to invent, explore and experiment. Putting aside the idea of making finished, perfect paintings students will explore placement, gesture, composition, line, color, thick luscious paint – and create a wealth of feeling with painted subjects by expanding the ideas of presentation.

Working primarily from observation, this three-day workshop will have you thinking on your feet! Each day will start with quick thumbnail sketches and then move into fast, loose works that push the conventions of the painted object. Students will explore strategies that move an idea from its initial dynamic impulse to a flesh and blood painting. Class time will be focused on careful looking and light-handed painting using the oil paint’s unparalleled ability to express the tangible, the slippery, and the implied. A central still life with a variety of objects will be provided. In addition, students are encouraged to bring a few objects of their own to add to the mix.
