This workshop loosens the student up with its bold and fearless approach to using color and gives everyone a hands-on opportunity to jump into painting right away. We will cover the elements of a good painting using Impressionist color theory and simplifying scenes into basic shapes of color values. We will begin with a simple study using blocks and rounded objects as we move toward creating simple landscape paintings or still lifes. Students will work with a landscape photograph as reference and apply the color theory learned through the object studies. Students are asked to bring in photographs for reference studies (simple landscapes/still lifes). Students will be moved along quickly with critiques each day, often at the end of a painting session (or after applying a color note or layer of color). We will use brushes for our first layer of paint and then the palette knife will be utilized to keep away from detail and allow us to focus on color and color placement.
