Introduction to Japanese Woodblock Printing
All Levels
Matt Brown
This exciting workshop offers an introduction to the range of wonderful Japanese tools, techniques and materials involved in the printing process. The Japanese hanga woodblock printmaking tradition uses water without a press. Everyone completes a multi-color print and engages with aspects of design, carving and printing. The instructor shares tricks and techniques that can also be adapted to other art-making approaches. The materials are pigments, wooden blocks and paper. The challenge is the line, shape and color. Students visualize an image, analyze it into parts, put hand to tool and get very original results. Class size is limited to eight!
