Jill Pottle

This is an exciting class for understanding how contemporary artists explore landscape painting. Students examine, refigure, and simplify the landscape to the basic elements of design, strong composition, and basic shapes of light and dark. This is accomplished through class exercises which inform future plein air painting practices. Emphasis is placed on rich paint quality, unusual color palettes, and techniques in layering paint. Often times, details overwhelm the most important facts in a painting. Students learn to focus on atmosphere, color relationships, and theme. Abstracting realism is encouraged. Some drawing experience requested.
