How to Write Your Next Artist Statement

Like drawing, painting, photography, and sculpture, writing is both an art and a craft; it has elements that require practice in order to serve your career as an artist. It begins with thought and then works its way into form. The gift of language, like art, is its ability to illustrate thoughts. The more plain we make ourselves on the page, the clearer our ideas become, and the better we (and the world around us) understand our creative efforts. In this two-part workshop, we will spend one session considering the elements that create a successful artist statement, and then turn our eyes and minds to a specific body of our own work, to explore the particular questions that it elicits. Enrollment is limited to eight.
