Nancy Gruskin
Somewhere between strict representation and pure abstraction there is a sweet spot — an approach to figure painting that conveys both, the humanity of the sitter and the individual voice of the painter. This class will explore avenues leading to this spot! In this class Nancy Gruskin will teach students through painting and collage exercises how to focus on simplifying and distilling the human form in its everyday environment. Students will work from a live model, but also from personal photographs, fashion photography, and reproductions of notable paintings. These figure studies will inform larger paintings, combining direct observation and invention. This class is open to all media. (This class will include a model fee directly paid to the instructor)
